Hollywood on the Hill for the 2017 CHV Gala!
The March 4, 2017, Capitol Hill Village Gala will sparkle with the theme of
Lights, Camera, Action! capturing the spirit of the Hollywood Dream Factory.
As with earlier Galas, the evening will provide a vivid sound track for dancing and listening, craft services of hors d’oeuvre and sweets, and abundant selected short subjects in the form of attractive auction items—all to benefit CHV.
Premiering in 2017 – Online Auction
A new opportunity this year is that auction items will be offered online so bidders—anyone whether you are going to the gala or not—can bid on a broad selection of events, vacation homes, restaurants and more. This will expand the bidder pool and make items available to those who are not able to attend the Gala.
The online auction site is expected to be available about February 4 and active until just before the March 4 Gala. The items sold in the online auction will not be sold at the gala. The gala is featuring only live auction sales (super spectacular ones at that) and Salon Dinners.
Dinner Date – Classic Salon Dinners
The Gala will feature Capitol Hill Village’s signature Salon Dinners—where individuals can meet and hear fascinating speakers at a wonderful Capitol Hill home. Salon dinners are not a part of the online auction.
Among the salon dinner guests already confirmed are: Francisco Aragon, director of Letras Latinas, an organization that cultivates Latin American poets; opera singer Mandy Brown; “Yappy Hour” with a veterinarian; and a panel of women reporters including Kasie Hunt, Susan Page, and Susan Davis.
Beautiful Sets, Special Effects
The Gala will include a live auction with 6–8 especially enticing offerings.
The Gala will be at the Kellogg Conference Center on the campus of Gallaudet University on March 4 from 7:00 to 10:30 p.m. Free parking will be available.
The Gala Planning Committee needs your help in filling out its wish list:
• Donations of vacation homes and other properties for the Silent Auction
• Donations of airline “miles” (50,000-mile increments) or Amtrak “points.”
• Decorative items around the Hollywood fabulous theme, particularly old films and film cans, movie posters, projectors
• Salon dinner hosts
• Sports-related items such as game tickets, signed memorabilia, etc.
• Behind-the-scenes opportunities—do you know someone who can provide a special look at a museum, historic site, television program, etc.
• Do you have a talent or special expertise that could be offered in the silent auction as a one- or two-hour class?
